Ins and Outs CD – ALEPH 027

$14.98

Schifrin’s affiliation with Gillespie goes back to the mid-50’s, when the trumpeter heard him leading his big band in his native Buenos Aires. Dizzy encouraged Lalo to come to New York and told him to call when he got there. Schifrin arrived in 1958 but had no luck in contacting Gillespie. They finally met in 1960, when Dizzy was playing Birdland.
“He said, ‘Oh, man, where have you been?'” Lalo remembered. “Write something for me!”

– Zan Stewart, from the liner notes
